Fox have now launched a wireless metering solution for our single-phase inverter range. This utilises the CHINT DDSU666 meter (CT version) along with a sender and receiver. This is useful in situations where the preferred wired connection between the inverter and incoming supply is difficult.

Wireless Communication Range Disclaimer:
The wireless meter solution is designed to provide an alternative where installation of an RS485 communication cable is impractical. As wireless performance is heavily dependent on the installation environment, Fox ESS cannot guarantee reliable communication over any specific distance.
Although the underlying wireless hardware may quote communication distances of up to 300 metres under ideal laboratory conditions with direct line of sight, this does not represent the expected performance of a typical UK installation. UK supplied devices operate within the applicable regulatory limits for radio transmission power (making this communication distance unachievable), and actual performance will vary considerably depending on the installation environment.
Factors which can significantly affect wireless communication include (but are not limited to):
- Building construction (brick, stone, reinforced concrete, foil-backed insulation and metal cladding)
- Steelwork and other metallic obstructions
- Consumer unit location
- Electrical interference from other equipment
- Antenna orientation and positioning
- Line of sight between the transmitter and receiver
As a result, installations may achieve reliable communication over 100 metres or more in favourable conditions, while other installations may experience unreliable communication over distances as short as 20–30 metres where building construction or interference significantly attenuates the radio signal. During internal testing we have successfully achieved communication distances in excess of 100 metres in suitable environments; however, these results should not be regarded as representative of all installations.
Where communication quality is poor, installers may improve performance by repositioning the antennas to achieve better line of sight. Subject to suitable cable selection, the supplied antenna leads may also be extended (typically by around 10–15 metres) where this assists with antenna placement. Alternatively, compatible third-party antennas with improved performance characteristics may be used.
If communication issues are encountered, Fox ESS recommends contacting Technical Support before carrying out antenna modifications or installing alternative antennas so that the most appropriate solution can be advised.
Due to the significant variation between installation environments, Fox ESS does not specify or guarantee a minimum or maximum operating distance for the wireless meter solution. Installers should always assess communication performance during commissioning and verify stable operation before completing the installation.
G100 Compliance Disclaimer:
The wireless meter solution (CHINT DDSU666 CT with transmitter and receiver) has a stated communication range of up to 300 metres. Please note that this figure is based on optimal conditions, including direct line of sight with no physical obstructions. In real-world installations, the effective range may be significantly reduced due to walls, metal objects, electrical interference, or other environmental factors. As such, Fox ESS cannot guarantee full performance or communication stability at the maximum stated range under all conditions.
This particular meter is not G100 compliant. Where G100 export limitation is required, a wired CT/metering solution must be used to ensure compliance with the relevant standards and DNO requirements.
